Penwortham and Walton-le-Dale are expected to be linked by road by Easter.
AdvertisementThe Cawsey Cut, or Cross Borough Link Road, is being worked on to unlock quicker travel between the two areas in South Ribble.
At present drivers face going through Preston on the Ringway or going down to Lostock Hall and through Brownedge Road and Todd Lane North to get a way between the two areas.
Construction work is ongoing to connect The Cawsey on the Penwortham side with Carwood Road, which is linked to the Morris Homes scheme at the same site.
The road was first mooted in the early 1970s – and after 50 years looks set to become a reality.
Lancashire County Council will still need to formally adopt the road, which could take until 2020.
