Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said it is “strongly against” lift surfers after new videos emerged online showing them riding on top of the lifts in the Market Hall car park .

The pair, known only as Ben and Josh, hit the headlines last week when they were seen breaking into Pennine Tower on the M6 and riding the lift.

Now they have posted a new video showing them using a lift key to override the settings on the lift in the Market Hall, which is closed for demolition.

They then went across to Limehouse, a former office block which was converted into apartments in 2015 and evaded security to enter the lift shaft.

A spokesman for LFRS said: “They may feel confident they are ‘expert’ and can avoid injury but by showing off they’re potentially encouraging others to try it out, who may not be so lucky.

“Our firefighters are the ones who’d have to deal with the consequences of what could so easily be a tragedy.”
