As the city is gripped by icy temperatures here’s how the weather shapes up for the next few days.
The good news is temperatures will be rising come Saturday after a very chilly spell.
A latest forecast shows the lowest temperatures being -3 overnight in Preston before climbing up to nine degrees on Sunday (6 January).
Public Health England and Met Office have issued a cold weather alert until midnight on Saturday.

Afternoon – An overcast afternoon and highs of 7 degrees at 2pm
Evening – The chance of a shower grows, but only 10 per cent chance.Temperatures stay around 6 degrees.
Sunday (6 January)
Morning – Another grey morning, temperatures still at 7 degrees. Sunrise at 8.27am.
Afternoon – Highs of 8 degrees. Still no sunshine.
Evening – Heavy clouds and temperatures drop to 5 degrees.
Monday (7 January)
Morning – Back to work, and back to normal weather. Higher chance of some light rain and a fresh breeze with it. Temperatures up at 8 degrees.
Afternoon – The rain continues and temperatures remain at 8 degrees
Evening – You’ll get back from work, feeling glum and the weather will match your mood. Overcast and 7 degrees.
