A police officer grabbed a woman seconds before she was about to jump into the River Ribble.
Preston Police said an officer jumped from his moving vehicle in the early hours of Sunday (20 January) and heroicly intercepted the woman.
She had gone over the side but the officer managed to grab her hand, at the Walton-le-Dale bridge in London Road, and haul her back to safety.
A statement from police said: “Officers were on London Road last night when they noticed a female climbing over the River Ribble bridge.
“One officer jumped from his moving vehicle and instinctively ran towards the female catching her by the arms as she went over the side. Undoubtedly saving her life.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service added: “Every second counts. Fantastic life saving intervention but our colleagues.”
The Lancashire Post reported the woman was taken to hospital for checks.
