A Preston man has been arrested in connection with a ‘distressing’ video showing a hate-filled rant about Christianity.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed a man – understood to be a taxi driver – making offensive comments about Muslims who had recently converted to become Christians.
Preston Police launched an investigation after being made aware of the footage, which shows the man being driven alongside Moor Park in North Road while speaking to the camera.
On Wednesday (19 December) they arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of religiously aggravated harassment.
Police say he remains in custody.
A spokesman for the police said: “We recognise the distress the comments have caused to a number of people and we hope they are reassured by the action we have taken.
“We are committed to tackling all crime motivated by hate and prejudice and we would urge anyone who has been a victim of a hate crime to have the confidence to come forward and report it to police. Victims will always be dealt with professionally and sympathetically.”
