A man was cut from his car after a crash on the M6 to the north of Preston during Thursday (27 December) evening.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent four crews to the incident between Junction 32 and Lancaster services.
Highways England shut the motorway for more than three hours as Preston Police conducted accident investigation work.
Firefighters from Preston, Fulwood, Garstang and Lancaster attended the crash between two cars.
One man was trapped in one of the cars and he was cut free by crews and taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
A second man was already out of one of the cars when firefighters arrived.
The crash took place around 10.30pm and the M6 reopened around 2.30am on Friday (28 December).

Traffic was diverted via the M55 and A6 northbound while the closure was in place.
