Soon it’ll be time for the Christmas decorations to come down and here’s how you can ensure your Christmas tree is recycled.

Preston City Council operates two different schemes depending on whether you’re signed up for the garden waste charge or not.

If you pay for and have a brown bin then you can chop up the tree and put it in the brown bin and it’ll be picked up for free. Brown bin collections resume on Monday 7 January 2019.

For those who don’t pay for a brown bin you can book a Christmas tree collection via the city council website.

It costs £5 per tree and you will need to pick either Thursday 10 January or Thursday 17 January to have it collected. The tree should be left outside your property where you would normally leave your bins.

South Ribble Borough Council is only offering Christmas tree collection for those with brown bins. The tree needs to be cut up to fit into the bin.

Garden waste collections for South Ribble don’t resume until Monday 28 January.

Alternatively, residents in Preston and South Ribble can visit their nearest household waste recycling centre at Ingol or Flensburg Way to dispose of their Christmas tree.
