Pie has arrived in Preston! The Otter’s Pocket opened its doors on Monday on Winckley Street, serving homemade pies, and offering a selection of ales.
Three of us went down to take a look and sample the offerings. We grabbed some drinks at the bar before taking a seat and checking out the menu. ‘Alreet Cha’ stood out straight away so it had to be a Butter Pie for me. We also tried the Fish Pie and Mr McGregor’s Rabbit Pie. The pies were served with mash, red wine gravy or vegan gravy but the menu does include some mash upgrades and extras. Mushy peas and red cabbage for me!
The food was delicious, very tasty pies indeed, but the Rabbit Pie was a winner with its crisp filo pastry and generous, rich chunks of rabbit. I’ll be ordering that one next time. There will definitely be a next time!

The menu also offers a vegan choice, and some desserts.
As I’m not an ale drinker, I teamed up with Preston beer enthusiasts ‘abeerinpreston’ to check out the line up. They certainly enjoyed the range on the bar.
There’s also a large wine menu and a choice of spirits and soft drinks.
Key lime pie for dessert which was more of a cheesecake really but was very tasty and refreshing.
The place itself still needs some finishing touches, there were a few loose wires around awaiting lights but it’s a fantastic addition to the city and something different for people to try. The atmosphere was relaxed and the interior has an contemporary industrial feel to it.
There’s 50 per cent off the food in November so I’ll definitely be making the most of that!
