Preston chicken farm fire sees thousands of chicks dead

Thousands of chicks have died in a fire near Preston.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has crews at a major fire in Salwick.

Crews were called to Rosemary Lane shortly after 8pm on Tuesday (13 November).

A spokesman for the fire service said 21,000 chicks had died in the fire at the chicken farm.

A single-storey building measuring 70 metres by 20 metres was alight when crews arrived.

Two crews from Preston, one from Fulwood and one from Penwortham as well as an aerial ladder crews are in support.

No people were been hurt in the fire according to the fire service and no cause has been given for the fire.
