A poetry champion is coming to Preston with her hit show, A Self Help Guide to Being in Love with Jeremy Corbyn.
Jess Green will perform at the Stanley Arms on Tuesday 9 October. Jess, who recently won the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam, has been described by Labour leader Corbyn as “fantastic” after he called her and invited her to meet over a cup of tea.
A Self Help Guide to Being in Love with Jeremy Corbyn contains work from Jess’s second book of the same name. It’s been described as mixing the subtleness of beautiful poetry with the hard-hitting social issues affecting Britain today.
Jess said: “I’ve come back from a really full-on Edinburgh Fringe, which involved having to read a poem that included the line ‘Jeremy Corbyn is 68 going on sexy’ at Jeremy Corbyn, and astonishingly winning the BBC Slam.
“I thought the astonishment might wear off. It was a fun but brutal process and I feel like I’ve successfully made it out of the Hunger Games.”

Jess has also recently seen her debut play Burning Books go on tour.
She said: “Burning Books is a play I wrote about teaching under Tory government, set in the staffroom of an inner city state school.
“The national tour has been exciting and nerve-wracking. I’ve never experienced sending something off around the country to be performed again and again without me there. I caught one performance last week – the company has done a brilliant job and audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Burning Books is at Hope Street Theatre in Liverpool on Monday 19 November.
