A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a shotgun blast in Preston during the early hours of Tuesday (23 October) morning.

Preston Police closed off Browning Road, off Ribbleton Avenue, in the St Matthews area, from 2am after a single shot from a shotgun fired through the door of a house.

No one was hurt in the shooting and police say they believe it is a targeted incident.

A 38-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Preston, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. They remain in custody. Two men have also been arrested on Wednesday evening.

Police say they have also recovered a vehicle used in the incident. No details have been given on the type of vehicle.

Detective chief inspector Richard McCutcheon said: “This is a fast moving investigation and we have made significant progress. Although we have arrested two people our enquiries are still on-going and I would continue to appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious or who has information which could assist to get in touch.

“I would like to reassure the community that this incident was not directed at the general public and appears to be a targeted attack.”
