Preston is set to shine as the annual celebration to mark the start of the festive period is returning once more.
AdvertisementThe Light Switch on in the city centre is a fantastic way to help get into the Christmas spirit with all the family.
Special guests are lined up to help switch the dazzling lights on which will take place during a ceremony and concert on the city’s Flag Market.
Taking place on the Saturday 24 November from 5.45pm, the event is sponsored by Preston’s Shankly Hotel, The Fishergate Shopping Centre and Preston’s College.

A packed programme of entertainment will be featured for all the family, including celebrity guests Children’s TV favourite Andy Day from CBeebies and Coronation Street’s ‘David Platt’, actor, Jack P Shepherd.
Also joining them will be the original lead singer of Rose Royce, Gwen Dickey, B*Witched’s Edele Lynch, The Opera Guy, Preston’s Charlotte Lilly from the X Factor, soul sensation Rene and the cast of Cinderella at Preston’s Guild Hall.
Organisers of the event, Preston’s Business Improvement District, in partnership with Smooth Radio North West, says it expects tens of thousands of people for the switch on.
Mark Whittle from Preston BID said: “The Christmas Concert and Switch On is a huge event in the city’s calendar, it’s always one of the busiest. Every year we are blown away by the sheer number of families who come to support and enjoy the event, which officially starts Christmas in Preston; this year’s event has a little something for everyone and is set to be a great evening.
“We are delighted to be working on behalf of city centre organisations, and sponsors who fund this event, and would encourage Prestonians to shop locally over the festive period.”
Preston City Council are offering free parking in the Market Hall Car Park from 3pm on Saturday 24 November for the Christmas Concert and Lights Switch On.
