South Ribble Police urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Bamber Bridge who had to cut one person from one of the cars involved.

Four people were hurt in the crash and treated by paramedics at the scene.

The crash comes as long delays remain on the M6 northbound and M61 northbound at Preston due to a very busy Friday evening on the roads.
