A Preston songwriter has appeared on The X Factor.

Charlotte Lily, from Preston, is well-known on the city’s open mic scene and for busking in the city.

She performed in-front of the judges, including Robbie Williams, Ayda Field, Simon Cowell and Louis Tomlinson, at Wembley Arena in the live auditions for a crowd of 4,000 people.

Charlotte brought her rescue cats to the audition with her, in a  and told the judges she was a ‘full-time cat mum’.

She performed the Village People classic YMCA as an acoustic cover.

Charlotte, speaking to Blog Preston, said: “It was a nerve-wracking experience and such an honour to play at Wembley.

“I think the judges certainly found me memorable with the cats coming with me too.”

Simon Cowell said: “I actually like you Charlotte because you’re wacky. No one has ever sang YMCA on the guitar. You’re original, you’re quirky, you’re fun. We’re going to remember you.”

She received four yes votes and made it through to the next round.
