Delays of more than an hour are being reported on the M6 southbound at Preston.
An overturned vehicle between Junction 32 And Junction 31, close to where the southbound entry from Junction 31A is, caused the delay.
Highways England said their traffic overs had managed to right the car and get it across to the hard shoulder.
Traffic is queueing back nearly to Junction 33 (Garstang) and the M55 is gridlocked trying to get onto the M6 southbound.
The crash took place around 4.30pm on Tuesday (25 September).
Three people in the car have been treated for minor injuries and a driver of a truck, which was also involved, has been reported for driving offences.
It’s had a knock-on effect on the roads in Fulwood and Broughton with Eastway now bumper-to-bumper along the A6 northbound and southbound.

Normal traffic conditions returned shortly before 7pm and all lanes were reopened.
