Winckley Square guided heritage walks are back for Autumn, and this time they will feature some of Preston’s most extraordinary women.

Over the past year The Friends of Winckley Square have been running regular walks covering the lives of some of the Georgian square’s former residents. The Autumn schedule includes a new Extraordinary Women tour, after its success as part of Heritage Open Days.

Jane Jeffery, who joined one of the Heritage Open Days tours, gave a glowing review at the time: “Our passionate guides gave a great deal of detail about the personal circumstances of the women featured, who included a headmistress, servants, and wives of rich merchants. It was social history at its best – thoroughly enjoyable and informative, as well as educational.”

The Extraordinary Women tour will take place on Wednesday 31 October, and tickets are available from Eventbrite.

The Former Residents tours will take place on Wednesday 3 and Sunday 21 October, and Wednesday 7 and Sunday 18 November. Tickets are also available from Eventbrite.

Alternatively all the tours can be booked by emailing louise.mor@groundwork.org.uk.

The tours are free but donations are welcomed. Each tour begins from the centre of Winckley Square gardens at 2pm, and will last around an hour and 15 minutes. They can be adapted for wheelchair users.
