A Penwortham couple have told of their hand-built festival wedding at a city cricket club.
Vernon Carus Cricket Club in Factory Lane was transformed for the wedding of Ben Mashiter and Bridget Hothersall.
With food sourced from the Ribble Valley to teepees put up from Chorley it was a wedding that kept it local.
Ben, 27, and a teacher in Preston, said: “We both live in Penwortham, and decided we wanted a personal local wedding; Vernons was the perfect place. With me playing cricket there from a young age, and Bridget spending her time spectating and supporting, we approached Vernons and asked if they would be interested in hosting our festival wedding.”
More than 130 guests joined the new Mr and Mrs Mashiter in their wedding festival on Friday 3 August.
Ben told Blog Preston: “The wedding went off with a bang, with Wayne Farrow the Wedding Singer/entertainer crooning along to George Ezra whilst canapes of sausage sandwiches, mini burgers and mozzarella shots were served.
“Then we had a rousing rendition of That’s Amore before the wedding speeches, with guests waving their napkins and singing along. During the meal, Wayne continued to entertain and delight our guests, leaving them dancing on chairs and having a fabulous time. 130 people belting Sweet Caroline at the top of their voices.
“We also had inflatable helter skelters, an outside gin, prosecco and ale bar and real cask ales for the guests to pour themselves. Ben and his brother in law actually built the bar themselves the night before the wedding. The night was topped of with a magnificent fireworks display by Phenomenalfireworks.
“The day and night was the most amazing wedding that any newly married couple could wish for. Guest stayed and partied until the early hours and they were still singing impromptu acapella songs long after the DJ had finished.”
