Human remains were found during work by Lancashire County Council on the paving of Church Street.
Dating back more than 400 years the remains have now been given a formal burial in the grounds of Preston Minster.
A reinterment of the remains, found in February 2016, saw a procession and service at the Minster during Wednesday (1 August).
The Vicar of Preston the Ven Michael Everitt led the service which was attended by dozens of Prestonians.

He told the Lancashire Post it was a ‘unique’ service.
Once the service was complete the remains were taken into the grounds of the Minster and earth sprinkled on the burial plot by those who attended.
