One of Preston’s major shopping centres has been evacuated.

Shoppers and staff were told to leave the Fishergate Shopping Centre shortly after 4pm on Friday (10 August).

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

Journalist Kate Cronin tweeted pictures of people leaving via the main entrance into Fishergate and of the fire engines turning up at the same spot.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We have been called to an automatic fire alarm at the Fishergate Centre.

“It was a false alarm, crews checked the shopping centre to confirm.”
