A French-themed restaurant has finally thrown open its doors in the former Fishergate Baptist Church.

Following major renovations to the 19th century the building, French-gastro chain Bistrot Pierre is now one of the largest restaurants in the city.

Its iconic clock, which previously stopped, has now been restored and is ticking once again.

Situated in a prime location near to Fishergate Shopping Centre, the new eatery features a stylish, modern interior coinciding with beautiful high ceilings and intricate window details.

The restaurant, which opens out onto a back terrace unveiling impressive views of the city, has availability for more than 200 diners in the atmospheric former church setting.

Chief executive of Bistrot Pierre, Nick White, said: “Given the size of the task to turn this church which was completely derelict into the fantastic restaurant you see tonight it’s actually gone pretty smoothly really.

“Although we’ve got 23 Bistrot Pierres, we pride ourselves on finding unique buildings. This is a first for us, it’s a church, we’ve not done a church before. And as you can see the inside is spectacular. It’s just a wonderful space that we’re critically really happy with.”

It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a fixed price lunch menu starting at £9.95 for one course and a set evening menu at £15.95, along with an a la carte menu.

Some special dishes include Loup de mer, tarte aux légumes and medallions de porc.

If you fancy a drink instead, a wide drinks menu will surely satisfy you featuring an array of cocktails, spirits, beers and ciders.

Toilets in the restaurant are situated downstairs and are separate gender-neutral cubicles featuring their own sinks and Dyson hand-driers.
