Reported to Lancashire County Council in mid-June the hole has now grown in size.

Emma said: “I reported it and since then the void under the road has really been revealed, especially since the second hole.

“They’ve put a barrier up but it’s worrying the road is just melting.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We’re aware of this issue and suspect it to have been caused by the ground beneath the road being washed away due to a water leak.

“We have made United Utilities aware of the issue and they are due to investigate further.”
