A pensioner from Preston has died after climbing in the Lake District.
AdvertisementA 73-year-old man was climbing at Helvellyn mountain, between Lakes Thirlmere and Ullswater, on Thursday (26 July).
Police say the man had fallen from the mountain.

Emergency services were called to the scene after being contacted at 2.22pm with a report that a man had fallen down.
The pensioner was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Police were contacted at 2.22pm on Thursday (26th July) with a report of a man that had fallen at Helvellyn.
“A 73-year-old man, from Preston, was pronounced deceased a short time later.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and the Coroner has been informed.”
Patterdale Mountain Rescue also attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “Members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of the man who sustained fatal injuries after falling from Striding Edge last Thursday.
“The man, who was properly equipped, was enjoying an activity which he loved. He was flown to hospital by the Coastguard.
“Many thousands of people undertake this walk each year.”
