Preston Police said: “Over the weekend we’ve seen several burglaries across the Tulketh & Ashton-on-Ribble areas of Preston.

“Please do not leave your properties insecure regardless of the weather.”

Advice from Lancashire Constabulary on how to keep your property safe includes:

  • Close and lock doors and windows when you go out, even if you are just in the garden.
  • Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox.
  • Fit an intruder alarm in a visible place and test it frequently.
  • Install security lights.
  • Make your property look occupied when you go out by leaving a radio or light on a timer and draw the curtains.
