A man has been arrested by police after being brought down from the roof of the Continental pub.

A 34-year-old man, from Preston, was arrested by police for causing criminal damage and remains in custody on suspicion of theft.

Preston Police said it appears the man was ‘trying to take lead from the roof’.

Four fire engines, a police car and an ambulance attended the scene.

Manager of the Continental, Lisa Rowlands, said: “He was on the roof with an axe.

“He has caused expensive damage and was trying to steal my roof.

“Emergency services attended and I was ok at the time because I didn’t realise that he actually had an axe.”
