M6 lane closures southbound as lorry goes through central reservation

A major crash had shut the M6 southbound near Preston.

Update: Emergency resurfacing work takes place and M6 remains closed on Thursday morning

One is closed on the northbound side and only one lane is open southbound after a lorry went through the central reservation.

Highways England say there is congestion between Junction 29 and Junction 30 in both directions.

A number of other cars are involved in the crash.

It is thought there are only minor injuries to those involved.

The crash took place shortly after 8pm on Wednesday (18 July).

Trapped traffic was released past the scene southbound via one lane.

The incident is not expected to clear until at least midnight.
