Police have been giving out bottles of water to motorists stuck in two-hour long delays on the M6 at Preston.
AdvertisementA lorry driver struck a bridge on the southbound section of the motorway between Junction 33 to Junction 32 on Thursday (26 July).
It led to a full closure of the motorway after inspections of the bridge concluded it was unsafe.
Delays have seen motorists stuck in sweltering temperatures for hours as holidaymakers and festival-goers headed to the Lake District.
Lancashire Police say Fulwood ASDA stepped in to give over hundreds of bottles of water.
Police officers made their way along the queues to give out the water.
No reopening time has been given for the M6 at Preston, and delays are back on the northbound stretch from Juntion 29 and on the soutbound stretch from Junction 34.
The A6 through Preston and Broughton is very busy as drivers seek an alternative route to try and join the M6 at Lancaster or at Junction 31A.
