Long delays are expected for anyone heading in and out of Preston.
AdvertisementAll lanes have been closed on the M6 between Junction 33 (Lancaster South) and Junction 32 (Broughton) in BOTH directions.
Update: M6 to remain closed overnight on Thursday and into Friday
Highways England say a lorry has struck a bridge during a crash – making the bridge unsafe. The driver was treated for minor injuries.
Initially two lanes were closed southbound following the incident around 7am on Thursday (26 July).

The motorway is not expected to reopen until late on Thursday evening or potentially into Friday (27 July) morning according to police.
A bridge inspector remains on scene as well as contractors as they work to repair the bridge.
On the M6 northbound there’s delays of one and a half hours back to Junction 29 and also back onto the M61 northbound at Junction 9 where it joins the M6.
On the M6 southbound there’s delays from Junction 34 south.

The A6 through Broughton is extremely busy and a lot of the roads through Preston are also gridlocked as drivers seek alternative routes.
