A 178-tonne transformer has made its way through Preston and is now on the motorway heading for Burnley.

Setting off from the Docks around 8am the mega-structure was given a police escort.

It made its way from the Docks onto the A583, and then up Marsh Lane and joined the Ringway.

Police then turned the vehicle carrying the transformer, built in South Korea, into North Road and it made its way up the A6/Garstang Road towards the Broughton roundabout.

It joined the M55 and then headed south on the M6 from Junction 32.

The transformer, transported by Alleleys is due in Padiham by early afternoon.
