Eldon Primary School also won the award for its creative and innovative approach to learning, with its own radio station helping to boost the confidence and self-esteem of its children and increasing speaking skills.
A classroom has been transformed into a 4D immersive room enabling pupils to use their imagination creatively, with projected video footage on a floor-to-ceiling-screen, sound, lighting and an interactive floor space to create an ‘immersive’ experience.
Health and wellbeing has also been promoted by the appointment of two PE specialists; 24 extra-curricular clubs are offered, and already have over 250 children taking part.
A piece of land near to the school has been transformed into a thriving forest area helping to increase outdoor skills.
Azra Butt, Headteacher at Eldon Primary School, said: “The judges said they were very impressed by the school because of the combination of high standards with joyful learning, creativity and innovation.
“They also told me that they recognised that the school values every aspect of the curriculum and works closely with the wider community.
“It is evident that not only is the curriculum of a high standard, but that we provide many other opportunities for children and families beyond the school day.
“Apparently this was a record year for entries and the standard was exceptionally high.
“The shortlists were particularly strong so I’m even more delighted with our achievement.
“I’m personally so proud of everyone at the school.”

“This national award is a credit to everyone at the school – the teachers, support staff, parents, governors and of course, the children.
“The first experience that children have of education at this school is that it is innovative, holistic and effective, which is a wonderful achievement.
“The judges commented on how impressed they were with the breadth and depth of what the school is doing.
“It has developed high-quality indoor and outdoor provision, and ensures that all children are able to make good progress during their time at the school.
“I’m so proud of the school in winning this award – It is so well-deserved and I’d like to send my personal congratulations to them.”
