A man has been charged in connection with the murder of his 88-year-old mother.

Preston Police launched a murder investigation after the post mortem result for Bernadette Green showed she had died from injuries consistent with suffocation.

Police arrested 65-year-old John Stephen Green, her son on Wednesday (6 June), and he has now been charged with murder.

Mrs Green was found at her home in Inkerman Street, Ashton-on-Ribble, on Friday 18 May.

Initially her death was not thought to be suspicious but the Home Office post mortem result triggered the police investigation.

Neighbours and Tulketh ward councillors told the Lancashire Post of their shock at the incident.

Mr Green is due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court during Saturday (9 June).
