One man was cut from a heavy goods vehicle using cutting equipment, spreaders and a winch. He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Fire crews were at the scene for around an hour on Thursday night.

Highways England closed the motorway until 5.15am on Friday (29 June), although some lanes were reopened earlier than this.

Diversion routes were via the M55 and then A6 up through Garstang.

There is currently reduced visibility on some parts of the motorway network due to smoke from the Winter Hill fire.
