Police have launched a witness appeal after a crash on the M6 at Preston.
Lancashire Police say around 3.25am a Renault Scenic driver collided with the central reservation on Saturday (26 May).
Emergency services attended and closed the motorway from Junction 32 (Broughton) to Junction 33 (Lancaster South).
The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Warrington, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment. He remains in a serious condition.
Police shut the motorway for five hours while accident investigation work took place.
Sergeant Steve Hardman said: “An investigation is underway following a serious collision on the M6.
“The driver of the vehicle is in a serious condition at hospital and my thoughts are with him at this time.
“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.”
