Firefighters have told how they were hindered battling a fire at a takeaway in Higher Walton.
Four crews from Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham and Blackburn were called to the building at Church Terrace, Blackburn Road.
Reports of the fire came in around 8.30pm on Saturday (12 May) at a takeaway being renovated opposite the All Saints Church.
Watch manager Dave Widdop said: “Upon arrival we identified the origin of the fire was confined to the basement of the property.
“Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were deployed to bring the fire under control.
“It should be noted that firefighting operations were hindered due to poor housekeeping within the premises restricting access for firefighters to the basement.”
The fire led to severe damage to the basement of the takeaway, which is under renovation, and fortunately no one was hurt.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service had crews on the scene for three hours and are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
