Those visiting family and friends at Royal Preston Hospital are going to be given longer to do it.
Previously hospital visiting hours for general wards were restricted to 2.30pm to 4pm and then from 6pm to 8pm depending on the wards.
Now Lancashire Teaching Hospitals has scrapped the restricted times to offer visiting from 10am to 8pm every day.
This brings standard visiting hours in line with maternity and children’s services wards.

A statement from the Trust said: “Families and carers have told us that they often want to spend longer visiting their loved ones than the current restricted visiting arrangements allow. We also know that many people have work and other commitments which can make it difficult to come to get to hospital during the official visiting hours.
“We hope this will enable people to spend as much time as they like with their loved ones, and gives more flexibility to fit visiting into busy lives.
“This does mean that patients may be receiving treatment or having meals when people visit, so ask for patience and support.
“If you are a carer and would like to visit and offer additional care or support you will be welcomed at all times. Please ask for a carers lanyard so you feel part of our team and staff get to know you whilst on the wards.”
