The Alternative Wedding Fair that was due to take place at the Harris Museum on Saturday (7 April) has now been cancelled.
Fair organiser, Kirsty O’Brien from Blenheim Candles and Etsy Lancashire, said that the decision was a sad one but one they had to make.
Kirsty told us: “It is with a heavy heart that we have decided not to go ahead with ‘The Alternative Wedding Fair’ on 7th April.
“The uptake of ‘alternative’ businesses and services was lower than expected.”
Despite the lack of ‘alternative’ businesses, Kirsty and her team actually had hundreds of other interesting businesses and services apply for stalls.
She said this was extremely encouraging, but in order to stay in keeping with the theme, most of these had to be turned away as they were too traditional for the ‘alternative’ message they wanted to portray.

Kirsty said: “We had loads of interesting businesses apply but unfortunately we ran the risk of it being a ‘normal’ wedding fair, not the alternative one we wanted.
“When we contacted people we thought it might suit, they were already booked up and had been so for 12 months.”

Despite it being a set back and a disappointment for those who were looking forward to the event, Kirsty said they are very sorry it had to be cancelled and are hoping to plan a bigger, better ‘Alternative Wedding Fair’ for early 2019.
“To ensure this event is what we advertised we are rescheduling for early 2019.
“Watch this space for a unique wedding fair to remember!”
