A new stretch of average speed cameras is coming into force near Preston.Advertisement
The A583 (Blackpool Road) from Kirkham to Clifton will see the yellow speed cameras enforcing the speed limit.
It follows the cameras being put up in London Road and Brockholes Brow during 2017.
Funded by the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership the latest stretch is from the Wrea Green roundabout through Kirkham by-pass to Newton-with-Scales to the west of Clifton.
The cameras use number plate recognition technology to detect vehicles and calculate their average speed by the time taken to travel between fixed points of a known distance apart.
New signs have gone up to inform drivers they are entering an average speed check area.
The Blackpool Road speed cameras come into force on Tuesday (6 March).
If eligible the driver is given the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course.
Or they can accept a condition offer of a fixed penalty (£100 and three penalty points).
For higher speeds the matter can be referred straight to court.
