Aerosol cans explode as firefighters tackle Brookfield fire

Flames leapt into the cold night sky in Ribbleton on Monday (12 February) morning.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent four fire engines to a fire close to a former car body shop.

The fire had spread to a shipping container which had a number of aerosol cans within it.

Crews were called to 5.13am to the scene in Burnsall Place, Brookfield.

Four firefighters tackled the flames and the fire was out by 6.45am.

No one is understood to have been hurt in the fire and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesman for the fire service said they had called in the Highways Agency and the Environment Agency to attend the incident and help with assessing the scene.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 1pm on Monday.

An earlier version of this story was based on initial fire service reports which had the incident starting at a former car body shop, it has now been clarified it was at a shipping container close to the premises.
