It has been implied that Toys R Us are working on a company voluntary agreement (CVA), a procedure commonly used by retailers to close loss-making stores.
Up to 800 jobs are said to be on the line after it emerged that the struggling retailer is looking to close at least 26 UK stores.
However, the Preston store, located at Deepdale Retail Park, is not included on the list of expected store closures.
Toys R Us Head Office were unable to give any comment.
They said: “We are not allowed to talk about any speculation in the media.”
