A major road in and out of Preston has been shut due to a serious collision.

Lancashire Police have closed Blackpool Road near Lea Gate.

Pictures sent to Blog Preston show the road is closed in both directions by emergency services.

A traffic crossing is shown as damaged in one of the pictures.

One eyewitness said a fire engine, ambulance and several police cars were in attendance.

Two vehicles are understood to be involved – with one in a field and another on the wrong side of the road.

The incident is thought to have happened around 5.45pm on Saturday (2 December).

The road is expected to be closed until around 8pm.
