More calls to police about Preston city centre congestion

Police have been forced twice in the last 24 hours to remind motorists not to call emergency lines about congestion.

PCSO Stephen Connolly took to social media to appeal for drivers not to take up valuable police time by calling either 999 or 111.

Numerous reports have been made to the police about the heavy traffic in Preston city centre.

As the Christmas shopping rush got underway the Butler Street turn in particular has become very congested – triggering calls to the police.

Since the last reports in late November a new give-way junction has been introduced at Fishergate – with drivers asked to give-way to Butler Street.

The Fishergate bus lane is also fully back in operation with access restricted between 11am and 6pm and thousands of drivers have already been caught and fined.
