Students and guests attending this year’s winter graduations are being warned about renovation work at the city’s grade-II listed Bus Station.

The walkway between the Preston Bus Station car park and the Guild Hall can only be accessed from certain levels of the car park.

University of Central Lancashire graduations run from Monday 4 December to Wednesday 6 December and they are expected to see one of the busiest times of the year at the Bus Station’s car park as proud relatives park up to watch their loved ones wear the cap and gown.

An alternative route to reach the Guild Hall is being advised by Lancashire County Council, and will be in place from early December.

Project manager for the Bus Station revamp Andrew Barrow said: “We’re encouraging people to think ahead and arrive in plenty of time, so that they can make the most of attending events in the city

“The car park at the bus station is always busier than usual during the graduation week, so we’re asking people to give themselves a little more time to park than they might normally do.

“The glass walkway to the Guild Hall is currently being worked on, with access from the upper car park levels during the graduation week. People on lower levels of the car park are advised to head to the bus concourse and then walk around to the Guild Hall’s front entrance via Lord Street.

“We apologise for any disruption this might cause and ask people to bear with us while this redevelopment work is taking place.

“People using the car park levels now will notice a big difference compared to how it looked before the work was done. It’s now a much brighter and nicer place to park your car.”

The walkway between the Guild Hall and car park is reopening on Friday 1 December, with access via the south staircase from levels six to nine.

Drivers must access the Bus Station using the north ramp at the Holiday Inn end of the building as the south ramp is shut for work.

Anyone parking on lower levels needs to use the lifts or stairs to get up to level six to use the walkway.
