Power cut leaves retirement flats among those without power in Walton-le-Dale

A power cut saw more than 50 elderly people left without power in Walton-le-Dale.

Electricity North West worked to restore power in the Hennel Lane area.

The power went off around lunchtime and was not back on until early on Saturday (25 November) morning – around 4.30am.

Around 22 properties were thought to be affected by the power cut and engineers were on site working to fix the issue.

Hennel House in Beechwood Avenue, home to 31 retirement flats, was without power.

A nearby resident said she had gone in to check on many of the residents – who no longer have a dedicated warden.

Many of the flats are without heating and food is going off from the residents freezers, and they are using candles for finding their way around.
