Anyone heading from Preston towards Manchester and Chorley saw major delays on the M61 southbound after a crash.

Lancashire Fire Service had to cut people free from the scene just after Junction 8 at the Chorley junction.

A green car had collided with a highway maintenance vehicle which was on the hard shoulder.

North West Motorway Police said two people had been taken to hospital following the crash. An off-duty paramedic had come to the drivers aid at the scene.
