A new set of ‘starter homes’ has been approved to be built in Penwortham.
Land previously owned by a housing association has been bought up by Galilford Try Partnerships.
Known as The Maltings the 4.2 acre site is to see a number of properties built as two-bedroom homes and apartments.
They will be sold through the ‘Starter Homes Initiative’ – a government backed scheme for first-time buyers aged between 23 and 40. Giving them a 20 per cent discount on the market value of the new home.
South Ribble Borough Council approved the proposal for 61 homes off Hill Road South.
Head of sales Sian Pitt said: “We’re delighted that approval has been granted for The Maltings and we look forward to continuing our work with South Ribble Council to bring the town’s first starter home development to life.
“The development’s proximity to Preston city centre, coupled with the high-quality design will make these new homes an attractive offering for both families and young professionals, as well as first time buyers who will benefit from support in getting onto the property ladder.”

Work on the site is due to begin in Autumn this year and the first homes are due to be complete by summer next year.
