Safety concerns have forced the closure of a bridge in Preston city centre.

East Cliff bridge, between Winckley Square and the Fishergate Shopping Centre, has warning signs up.

Network Rail, who co-own the bridge, have concerns about the structure of it and have closed it as a safety precaution.

Lancashire County Council said affected businesses were aware and there is no reopening time being given for the bridge.

A spokesman said: “A proposal to create a new bridge is already in process, as part of the overall redevelopment plans for East Cliff.”
