St George’s Shopping Centre was evacuated today (June 25).

Staff had returned to stores by 1.40pm and shoppers were allowed to return shortly after.

Katy Darby, who was the scene, said: “The alarms went off. It was a false alarm rather than a fire drill.

“We went to our staff meeting point and waited. Everyone was back inside pretty quickly.”

It took around 25 minutes from the alarm going off to everyone returning to their shopping.
