Ellen Higginbottom had been reported missing by her family on Friday and was later found dead

A Preston man has been charged with murder after a body was found in Wigan.

Mark Steven Buckley, 51, of New Hall Lane, Preston was charged after police found the body of missing teenager Ellen Higginbottom at Orrell Water Park, Wigan.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wigan Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday, June 21).

Police received a report at around 7.20pm on Friday, June 16 that 18-year-old Ellen Higginbottom had gone missing.

Officers searched Orrell Water Park in Wigan. A body was found at around 2.30am on Saturday, June 17.
