A former mental health hospital in Preston looks set to be torn down.
Demolition plans have gone in for the Ribbleton Hospital site off Miller Road, Ribbleton.
It’s been empty since 2015 and Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust – who own the site – say it’s become a target for vandalism.
A 24-hour security presence is now in force due to a ‘large amount of vandalism and theft’.
Proposals lodged with Preston City Council by Red Rose Corporate Services state the buildings would be demolished and the site prepared for sale.
The hospital provided mental health treatments before it was closed, with services transferred to The Harbour in Blackpool – a new purpose-built facility.
A spokeswoman from Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “The main block at Ribbleton Hospital was built between 1974 and 1981, the Trust vacated in March 2015.
“The Trust has determined the former Ribbleton Hospital site to be surplus to requirements and it is being sold. The future use will depend on the intentions of a purchaser.”
Full plans for the demolition can be seen on the city council website.
