Fire service called to series of ‘loud bangs’ in Preston city centre

A series of explosions heard in Preston city centre in the early hours of Monday morning came from a skip fire.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to Syke Street, off Avenham Lane, shortly after midnight.

A spokesman said: “People were disturbed by the sound of of aerosols popping in the skip.

“One fire engine and crew from Preston attended and put the fire out.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, although the fire service said it was not thought to be suspicious.
