Walkers and joggers are being warned about a dangerous plant on the banks of the River Ribble.

Lancashire County Council has notices up about a growth of giant hogweed.

The plant can cause severe burns to those who touch it.

The hogweed is found on the south bank of the River Ribble and on the dirt path through the fields.

Contact with hogweed can also cause burns in dogs.

What should you do if you do come into contact with hogweed?

Seek immediate shelter from the sun

Thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and cold water as soon as possible

Keep the exposed area away from sunlight for 48 hours

If problems persist, seek medical help
